Project 365

Welcome! This is my own 365 project of creating at least one post per day about the stuff that I learnt, achieved, and found, the stuff that made me happy, or the new thing I did every single day.

The project was started on 21 February 2010. It has stopped for few times but I am determined to continue!

This project is dedicated to myself. I want to feel grateful for every single thing I have. I want to be thankful for my own life. I just want to feel that I have enough.

My First Free T-Shirt!

IMG_0889

I got my first free t-shirt today at the office. I liked it πŸ™‚ I especially loved the cup. It’s really cool!!!

Although I’ve only been working for a week, I really enjoy working here. I’m still in a training phase, but I love what I have learnt so far. The web applications that they develop are one of the best in the market! (or even the best!) I’m not trying to be bias. It’s the fact. LOL.

I also get along with my colleagues really well, especially the team that I am in and the people whom I often have lunch with. The environment around the office is very casual. Very multicultural. Everything is transparent. I feel like I am in my comfort zone. That’s a great thing.

I hope I will feel the same way once I finish my training and do my “real job” πŸ™‚

The One I’ve Been Waiting For

About 5 weeks ago, I was invited for an interview in an IT company in KL. A friend of mine who had been working there (and *loved* it) told me to apply. I was quite nervous about the interview, because I really wanted this consultancy job that I applied. The interview itself was surprisingly relaxing and it’s so different than other companies. It was not a one-to-one nervous racking question and answer sessions. It was more about group-based activity and how well you work as a team β€” which is definitely one of my strengths as I really love working in teams. During lunch, the candidates got to meet the “bosses” β€” again it was very relaxing and they were very friendly. As I love meeting new people, I took this opportunity as a way to engage conversation with them and to show them how BADLY I wanted to work at this company.

Alhamdulillah, few days later, I got a news that they wanted to hire me. I couldn’t imagine how happy and grateful I was. I couldn’t believe it!!! But I didn’t want to tell a lot of people about it as I still had to apply for the employment visa. What if my visa application was rejected?! I kept on praying that this wouldn’t happen.

Finally, my visa was accepted within two weeks of applying! This was soooo fast! I was told that normally it would take more than a month to complete. I was lucky indeed. Alhamdulillah.

So officially, today was my second day. It has been great so far. My boss and colleagues have been very nice and friendly. They always help me out whenever I have some problems. They are very casual (including my boss) β€” which is great! They would also make sure I wouldn’t go alone for lunch. The team that I have joined in is also a crazy, outgoing, and friendly team. Although there are only two girls (including me), I really enjoy talking to my team buddies. This is the reason why I try to have dinner with them after work so I can get to know them a little bit better.

InsyaAllah everything will run smoothly for the next few months and I hope I can learn, contribute, and grow in this company πŸ™‚ Looking forward to it!

A Quick Escape from KL

Today I was invited for a BBQ at a friend’s private orchard. We stayed there from 9am to 5pm, busying ourselves with eating, eating, and eating. LOL. Well, we did cut some bamboos for BBQ-ing and find some woods for fire. It was one of the best things I’ve done so far in Malaysia. I really loved to be here, away from the noisy city life. It was such a nice escape.

The Thing I Love About KL

— is its parks and a small forest in the city. I love to be here. Sitting there under the sun while reading a book — it’s so soothing.

Once I’m done with my reading or people-watching, I’d go to a nearby cafe to have a hot chocolate or cappuccino πŸ™‚

Surprise from Eindhoven

postcard

It’s been awhile since the last time I received a postcard. It was only one and a half month ago that I finally settled and had an address. So I can’t tell you how happy I was when I received this postcard!! This is a personalized one that my friend made. She took those pictures and printed them as a postcard. Although I lived in Eindhoven, I didn’t get to bring any of its postcards with me. So thanks so much Qonit, for sending it πŸ™‚

It really made my day.

My New WordPress Plugin

WP Visited Countries

I’m proud to announce my new WordPress Plugin, which I named it "WP Visited Countries". I started to develop this plugin in the middle of last year, but somehow it never finished. I tried to complete it before I started my Middle East trip, but again, it was delayed. The plugin was working fine but I was not satisfied with the codes. I wanted to find a more neat way to do it. I never developed any plugins before, so it took time for me to learn how to do it the right way.

Since I have nothing to do these days, I decided to resume the project again. After less than a week of changing the codes, looking at old codes, and reading a lot of tips on the Internet, I managed to finish it! Yay!

So, there it is, my new plugin. When it was first released early in the morning, there were no bugs β€” as far as I knew. But then I discovered that the plugin couldn’t work in multisite feature of WordPress (i.e. having multiple blogs under one WordPress installation). So I had to add some minor changes… I haven’t tested it thoroughly this time. I hope it came out right! Any feedback? πŸ˜‰

It’s Been So Long

ScreenShot001

It was 8 years ago β€” 2004 to be exact β€” that for the time I designed and developed a website especially dedicated for my high school friends. At that time, static websites were still very much popular and many people still relied on free website hosting that was equipped with ads in each page.

The original website that I designed underwent major makeover two years later, although it’s still static. I had been wanting to make it dynamic, but I didn’t have time yet. The plan was always postponed that I finally gave up on paying its domain altogether.

Time passed by and I completely forgot about the existence of this website. It was only today that I encountered this website again! I couldn’t believe that the website could still be perfectly viewed with today’s web browser! πŸ™‚ Hoorah to me! πŸ™‚

I’m currently reminiscing about the good old days through this website. Such a lovely memory.
